Synopsis

Elias has spent his life chasing one dream: a home that feels permanent. After years of saving and moving from place to place, he finally buys the quiet suburban house he imagined as a child. On his first night there, exhausted and overwhelmed, Elias slips into a dream that feels like a crossing. He moves through the home across shifting decades, witnessing fragments of families who lived there long before him — their laughter, their conflicts, their ordinary moments that shaped the space in ways he never knew. Rooms shift between eras. Objects flicker with memory. Voices echo from futures he cannot yet understand. He glimpses the family he might one day have — tender, chaotic, fleeting — and realizes that the home he fought so hard to own is only one chapter in a much larger timeline. A home is not defined by its permanence, but by the people who pass through it. But one figure from his dream lingers in his mind — someone who didn’t belong to any era he visited, and whose presence suggests he may not be the only one moving through the timeline.

Inside the Story

A note from the Creator

I wanted to explore the quiet truth that homes are never truly ours — we inherit them from the past and prepare them for the future. By letting the protagonist witness fragments of families across time, including his own, the film becomes a meditation on belonging, legacy, and the fragile beauty of domestic life. A home is not a destination; it’s a moment we share with others before it becomes someone else’s story. Purchased and Borrowed reflects this truth: we may buy a home, but we only ever borrow it from time.
